I worked as part of the One Health PACT project, modelling the risk of future vector-borne disease outbreaks in the Netherlands. I developed future socio-economic scenarios for the Netherlands, as well as predicting the future distribution and abundance of key mosquito and bird species.
PhD: Modelling the impacts of climate change on European sheep and goat systems, SRUC and University of Edinburgh

My PhD focused on the impacts of climate change on the yield and protein content of European grasslands. I conducted a meta-analysis, used multiple regression models and used two different process-based models (Century and DailyDayCent). This included looking at the effects of multiple simultaneous climatic changes as well as the effects of extreme weather events. For further details, see my publications. This work was part of the iSAGE initiative and was funded by Horizon 2020.

Freelance Consultant

I provided consultancy and research services to NGOs, focusing on social and environmental sustainability in the food sector. I created country and sector profiles, coordinated field research, conducted statistical analysis, wrote external reports, liased between different organisations and conducted monitoring and evaluation activities. I also co-organised and presented at a conference in Morocco in March 2016. This was managed by Fairfood International and local trade union the FNSA. It included representatives from government, the private sector, civil society and academia.

Questionmark is a non-profit organisation which provides information to consumers about the sustainability of the products they buy. I researched human rights issues in fresh produce supply chains and developed a system to automatically categorise these, based on their severity, the reliability of the the data sources, and other inputs.

Fairfood International is an international non-profit organisation advocating for a sustainable and fair global food system. I researched various topics relating to food and sustainability, including carbon footprint initiatives, sustainability standards, corporate CSR policies and environmental, social and economic barriers to sustainability. A large part of my work was focused on improving labour conditions for workers in the Moroccan tomato sector.

Northfield Ecocentre offers practical advice on living more sustainably. I answered queries from the public, wrote factsheets on various topics, led workshops and managed the website.
